Art Styles and Graphics Options

On Windows and Mac, the Builder can show several different Art Styles and Graphics levels. On less powerful devices, it is recommended to set your art style and graphics to the lower options for better performance.

For Chromebook and mobile devices, the Low Poly and Fast options are only available.

The Meta Quest 1 & 2 headsets show a mixture of Stylized and Medium graphics.

Art Styles

Art Styles can change the overall look and feel of an experience. The appearance of every shape, material, objects like rocks and trees, special FX, and even backgrounds like the Hills change when switching between Art Styles.

Pro Tip: Saving an experience binds the selected Art Style to that experience, so the next time it is opened, the Builder will switch to that Art Style.

Realistic

Shows the highest level of detail. Available in PC and Mac Builders, and visible on Desktop VR devices.

  • All shapes appear with their highest level of detail and polygon count. This means that some shapes like the Cylinder or Sphere are perfectly smooth, instead of appearing more blocky.

  • Shows high quality versions of all Materials. In Realistic mode, materials can show both normal and metallic maps, so they appear the most "photorealistic" out of all art styles.

  • Special Effects (particle FX) appear in their highest quality versions in Realistic mode.

  • Rocks, Trees, and Mountains in the Object tab appear in their best quality, with the highest amount of polygons.

  • The Hills background option appears more photorealistic.

Stylized

Shows medium level of detail. Available in PC and Mac Builders, and visible on Meta Quest, Desktop VR devices.

  • All shapes appear with their highest level of detail and polygon count, like Realistic.

  • Shows a more stylized/lower quality version of all Materials. In Stylized mode, materials can show only normal maps.

  • Special Effects (particle FX) appear in a more stylized/lower quality form, for better performance.

  • Rocks, Trees, and Mountains in the Object tab appear in a more stylized/lower quality form, for better performance.

  • The Hills background option appears more stylized/low poly.

Low Poly

Shows a low level of detail. Available in PC and Mac Builders, but required on Chromebook and mobile devices. Also required for Cardboard VR.

  • All shapes appear with a lower level of detail and polygon count. So shapes like the Sphere or Cylinder have visible edges in Low Poly mode.

  • Shows a more low poly/lower quality version of all Materials. In Low Poly mode, materials only show the base map (no normal or metallic maps).

  • Special Effects (particle FX) appear in a more stylized/lower quality form, for better performance.

  • Rocks, Trees, and Mountains in the Object tab appear in a more stylized/lower quality form, for better performance.

  • The Hills background option appears more stylized/low poly.

Pro Tip: Saving an experience does not bind the Graphics quality to it.

The best-looking graphics option, but also the most costly in term of performance.

  • Uses "Universal Render Pipeline/Lit shader
  • VR_Desktop Quality settings (deferred rendering + FSAA, shadows, HDR, max. 8 pixel lights)
  • HDR
  • PostProcessing (Bloom, Tonemapping, White Balance, Color Adjustments)
  • Standard Skybox

High on VR

  • Uses "Universal Render Pipeline/Lit shader

  • VR_Desktop Quality settings (forward rendering + MSAA, shadows, max. 8 pixel lights)
  • No HDR, no PostProcessing
  • Lite Skybox

Fast

The best-performing graphics option, but also the lowest quality.
