Using Custom Characters and Costumes

When using Third Person Views in the Builder, you can change the avatar to your own custom character or apply a "costume" so the avatar appears as any 3D model you have created!

How To Use a Custom Character as your Avatar

  1. Make sure you have created a custom character, saved it to your account, and applied it as your avatar.
  2. Open the Builder.
  3. Select the blue Player figure in the scene, and scroll down on the Object tab until you see the Use Camera settings.

UseCameraLocation

  1. Select the dropdown menu next to Player Camera, and choose 3rd Person View from the list.

  1. Play the Viewer to see your custom character as the Player avatar in the scene.

Use the same approach to add your custom character to any of your games or experiences!

How To Apply a "Costume" as your Avatar

When the 3rd Person View setting is active, you can completely hide the character so there is a blank or invisible character controller. By adding a 3D model instead of a character, you can control any object you want like a robot, animal, vehicle, image or anything else you can imagine!

The steps are very similar to using a custom character as your avatar.

  1. Make sure you have a costume you can apply to your Player, like a 3D model, object or image.
  2. Select the blue Player figure in the Builder, and scroll down on the Object tab until you see the Use Camera settings.

UseCameraLocation

  1. Select the dropdown menu next to Player Camera, and choose 3rd Person View from the list.

  1. Now, instead of applying your User Avatar, hide the avatar completely. Select the dropdown menu next to Player Model, and choose None to have the avatar disappear in the Viewer.

  1. Find the 3D model, object, or image you want to use as the costume for your Player and add it to the scene.
  2. Select the Player and choose Add Object next to the Head slot setting, then select the costume object in the scene.

AddObjectHeadSlotLocation

  1. If you want the object touching the ground, select Place Object in the Head slot settings. When you see the dialog asking to add a Grip Handle, confirm and then move the object to the ground at the Player's feet.

  1. Play the Viewer and move your Player with their custom costume around the scene. Want it to move faster or slower, or have a different position? Exit the Viewer and edit the Player Settings until you are happy.

Have fun adding custom characters and costumes to your games and experiences!
